I randomly, and at the very last minute, got offered a job as the official photographer for the Eilean Dorcha Festival, on the Isle of Benbecula. It’s the sort of thing I couldn’t refuse, especially as one of my favourite bands, Hunter and the Bear, were playing, so of course I accepted!
I headed down early on the Friday, and met up with Iain, who was looking after social media for the festival, and we spent some time planning (whilst taking advantage of the canapés and drinks at the VIP reception!) and I got my wrist bands and photographers pass. The rest of the day was spent between the festival site and the Dark Island Hotel where I edited photographs and Iain uploaded them to social media, keeping the buzz going and people commenting and liking!
I ended the day in the Green Room, having a few drinks with Abba and Dolly Parton…! It all got a bit surreal! After a long and busy day and a few drinks, I was shattered, so headed to my tent for a good sleep before day two.
Day two followed much the same pattern with runs between photographing and editing/uploading. We were getting some great feedback on social media – about the festival, the bands, the atmosphere and the photography – making it all worthwhile! I had great fun photographing the festival, and have already been asked to go back next year, so it was a very successful weekend – for the festival and for me. Oh, and Hunter and the Bear were brilliant; they’re a great live band and it was amazing photographing their set.
Here are the highlights from day two, with The Shed, Journey North, The 4 String Circus, Elephant Sessions, Mànran, Let’s Circus, Tide Lines, Hunter & The Bear and The Silencers. Lots more photographs from the weekend are available on my website.
